Tom is survived by his son Phoenix Parrish Smothers, his mother Stephanie Rose, and father Thomas Boyln Smothers III, and siblings, Bo Smothers and Riley Smothers. Tom belonged to and was loved and respected by his large extended families.
Tom is remembered as an outgoing friend to generally everyone he met. His wonderful sense of humor and true interest in others revealed his charismatic nature. He was a great listener and loved to debate with respect to all aspects of life (including his interest in politics). His engaging smile and welcoming nature gave one an immediate feeling of ease. And then there was his laugh--always present and reassuring. His manners were impeccable, and he was always eager to please and make others feel at ease. He was a passionate explorer and lived in and visited many countries, and his nature was quick to absorb the cultures and belong. The ocean and waterways and its creatures were his imbedded passion. Among his special interests were surfing, SCUBA diving, Rock N’ Roll from the 60’s to the present, collecting antiques, and comic books. He was an artist and loved to draw and collect art. Tom loved his mother, father, grandparents, and their lives and wisdom formed the basic values of his being. Above all, he profoundly revered his son, the true love of his life, and passed on those values to him. Dear Tom, to quote from a favorite movie of yours, “May the force be with you”.
