On Monday, June 11, 2012, Alfred O. Simon departed this earthly dwelling.
Alfred was born on May 30, 1931, in New York City, NY, to the late Alfred Alexander and Marigiana Reynolds Simon. He was educated in the N.Y. C Public School System. Alfred joined the Army in 1950, and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded two Bronze stars for his service in Korea. Alfred was a Mason and a member of the American Legion.
In 1955, he married Bertha McRae, and from this union two children were born, a son, Kevin Jerome and a daughter, Kathy Lynn. He retired from the Hackensack, NJ, Post Office where he was a letter carrier for 34 years. He attended Victory Missionary Baptist Church and although he never joined, he supported the Feeding Ministry and made regular contributions to the Church.
Alfred was preceded in death by his sister Janice Simon Gaines and brothers: Eric James, Alexander and Eldridge.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Bertha, son Kevin J. Cheryl of Roselle, NJ, daughter Kathy L. Pinckney Marion, two grandsons Kishon Q. Pinckney and Justin U. Pinckney of Plainfield, NJ, two sisters Merleen Hightower of Jamaica, NY and Barbara Brown of NY, two brothers Aubrey Simon of NY and Vincent Simon of Antigua, West Indies, his good friend Nathaniel Perkins of Teaneck, NJ along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
