Bertha Simon

On Thursday, December 6, 2012, Bertha McRae Simon, departed her earthly dwelling.
Bertha was born on May 2, 1934, in Newark, NJ, to the late Ira Lee and Willie Mae McRae. She was educated in the Newark Public School System, attending South Side High School and Essex County I College.
In 1955, she married Alfred O. Simon Tommy, and from this union two 2 children were born...son, Kevin Jerome, and daughter, Kathy Lynn.
Bertha retired from the Newark City Welfare Office, where she was employed as a Social Worker for thirty 30 years.
She joined Victory Missionary Baptist Church, on June 11, 2000. A faithful member, she served as the Secretary of the Feeding Ministry, and oversaw the distribution of clothing for the homeless that were fed.
Bertha was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Stoney, Ed Lee, Willie Slim, Samuel sister, Helen Monk, and her Godson, Stanley Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Kevin J. Cheryl, of Roselle, NJ daughter, Kathy L. Pinckney Marion, two grandsons, Kishon Q. Pinckney and Justin U. Pinckney, of Plainfield, NJ a goddaughter, Diara Fisher, of Newark, NJ a brother, Charles McRae, and a sister, Barbara L. Adams, both of East Orange, NJ, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and her special friends....Angela Branch, Pat Harris and Wanda Horace.
