Charles S Law
1948 - 2023
Charles "Charlie" S. Law, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023 at Spring Valley Hospital, surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.
Charles was born in Kendallville, Indiana on April 22, 1948. He graduated from Highland High School in Highland, Indiana in 1966, and was in the top 10% of his class. He went on to get his Bachelor's of Science from Ball State University, where he was part of the marching band there. He performed at many NFL games and national parades with the Ball State Marching Band.
Charles worked in sales and as a DJ, but his first love was his music. He managed and played in Charlie Law's Big Jazz Band and was part of several groups in both Indiana and Las Vegas, including the Vegas Valley Legacy Band, and Saint Joseph's Municipal Band. Playing Christmas concerts at Opportunity Village was something he looked forward to annually. His extensive musical career allowed him to play with some of the best jazz and big band musicians. After a long career, he retired to spend more time with his family.
Charlie will always be remembered for his deep voice, love of music, his love for animals, his sarcasm and sense of humor, and his ability to make people laugh. He moved to Las Vegas in 1985 from Indiana. Spare time was spent enjoying reading science fiction books and watching a variety of sports. Most of all, he left behind a lasting legacy with Sam and Julie, his children, through his passion for music.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Susan Law; daughter Julie Schoening and her husband Daniel, son Sam Law and his wife MeShawn; step sons Sam Lewis and his wife Kim, Benjamin Lewis, and David Lewis and his wife Heather; brother Mike Law and his wife Debbie; grandchildren Brandon and Miranda (children of Daniel and Julie), Tristin, Ozzy, and Bradin (children of Sam and Kim), and Isabelle and Nate (children of David and Heather); great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Charlie was the son of Sam and Mary Kay Law; he was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his daughter, Britt Law. Charlie's funeral services will be held at Davis Funeral Home (1401 S Rainbow Blvd.) on Saturday, November 11th at 2:00PM PST. Family and friends are asked to express their
condolences to the family or make donations to the Ball State University Foundation, the ASPCA, or the Jazz Foundation of America in Charlie's honor.
