Dr. Dean C. Coach Funk passed away June 3, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimers. Our beloved Dean was born July 5, 1931, in Osawatomie, Kan. He earned his BA at Wichita University and furthered his education at Oregon University, where he earned his Ph.D. He then began teaching at Paradise Elementary School and continued for many years at a number of schools throughout the valley. He was instrumental in establishing Western High School, where he coached track and field and taught special education. Dean then moved to EW Clark High School and, together with Coach Larry Barnson, helped lead Clark to three track and field state championships until his retirement in 1991. In 1996, Dean was inducted into the Southern Nevada Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Dean was preceded in death by his beloved son, Bryant daughter, Kara and mother, Margarett. He is survived by his wife, Carol son, Curtis Beata stepdaughters, Charlotte Dave Wintch and Kimbra Bill Webb sister, Kathleen Moffett grandson, David Barrington Jenn, James and Kate granddaughters, Taylor Webb and Ega Funk. Viewing will be 57 p.m., Monday, June 11. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m., both at Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimers Foundation in Deans memory.
