Donald Hoye

Donald James Hoye, 78, passed away April 5, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born November 2, 1932 in Estherville, Iowa to Joseph L. and Ruth Kidder Hoye. He was married to Janet Jensen on October 26, 1958. Don was preceded in death by his parents and later wife Jan, on July 13, 2007. He recently married Joan Miller on September 4, 2010. Don is a graduate of Estherville High School in 1950 and University of Iowa in 1954 with a degree in Pharmacy. He joined the US Army in 1954 and served two years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. Upon leaving the military, he joined his father in Estherville as a pharmacist in the Hoye Rexall Drug Store until he sold his business in 1984. He and his wife Jan moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1984. Where he served as an itinerate Pharmacist serving all of Las Vegas KMart stores from the next 20 years. During his professional and successful career as an Estherville Pharmacist he was a strong and influential supporter of the Estherville community, serving in many civic activities. He enthusiastically enjoyed spending summers at the family lake home on the famous Lake Okoboji, Iowa, where he was known for his passionate love of fishing. Don is best known for his infectious laughter and spontaneous conversations with anyone at any time no one was ever a stranger to Don. To that end, Don was most effective in making people laugh by serving as a Shrine clown for the Shriners. Don is survived by his wife JoanMillerHoye, his daughter Heidi Hoye Toale and soninlaw John Toale and his two grandchildren Joey and Gracie Toale, of Arnolds Park, Iowa his sister Mary Anne Grinde, of Iowa his brother Tom Hoye and sisterinlaw Jan Hoye of Arizona and Joan MillerHoyes three married children, six grandchildren and four greatgrand children. Funeral Services for Don will be held on April 9, 2011 at 1:30pm at the University Methodist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada preceded by a viewing scheduled from 12:30to 1:15 pm also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the Shriners clowns or the University United Methodist Church in Dons name.
