With tremendous sorrow and grief, the family and friends of Eugen Leu of Henderson, Nevada, announce that Eugen made the decision to leave behind his emotional pain on Monday, August 19, 2024, passing away at the age of 57. His tragic loss was unexpected, and those who knew and loved him are shocked and deeply saddened.Born on October 24, 1966, in Bucharest, Romania, to Mircea and Trandafira Leu, Eugen was loved by many friends and family members around the world. He lived in several countries throughout Europe, including Belgium, Germany, and France and was fluent in multiple languages. Eugen received higher education as a Social Specialized Educator, attending school in Namur and Wavre, Belgium. He also studied Romanian philology and languages, pedagogy, and social sciences at the University of Bucharest. Eugen often shared stories about his harrowing experiences as a journalist and radio broadcaster during the Romanian Revolution, standing in bread lines in a Communist country with rationed food, and always remained wary of political propaganda and leaders in the U.S. and other countries that reminded him of the darker history of his homeland. Eugen immigrated to the United States in 1996. He worked tirelessly in Europe to save money so that he, his wife Joanne, and their two young children, Sarah and Abel, could create a comfortable home in Connecticut. Sadly, the family separated, and Joanne eventually moved back to France, where they divorced. Eugen later met and married Monique Andronic in 2003, living and working as a professional photographer for Olan Mills in Sussex, New Jersey, until her passing in 2017. He had also worked in the pharmacy industry with Monique and decided to pursue a career as a Pharmacy Technician when he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to join his friends. After moving to Las Vegas, Eugen met his future girlfriend and partner, Kris Masters, on July 28, 2017. Eugen and Kris were building a life together with their beloved cat, Bob. Over the past seven years, they enjoyed attending concerts and live music events, taking wine country trips to Paso Robles, spending time with family on game nights, attending local car and craft shows, exploring food and drink festivals, dining at their favorite sushi restaurant, and relaxing at home with Bob. Eugen was an accomplished cook who loved sharing gourmet meals with friends and family. However, his true passion was photography. He was always eager to capture special moments with his professional camera or his ever-present cell phone, creating stunning still photography or video of everyday life and nature. Eugen was also pursuing a later-in-life career change, having enrolled in his second year at UNLV, where he was excelling in his undergraduate coursework in Health Applied Sciences. He was employed part-time by the City of Henderson as an Assistant Program Specialist for Adaptive Recreation and Inclusion Services, helping disabled teens and children in day activity programs. Eugen is survived by his daughter, Sarah Virginia Leu, age 28; his son, Abel Florentin Leu, age 32; his sister Michael Manea, age 70; and his partner, Kris Masters, age 56. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles and numerous friends and former work colleagues.
