Frank Benjamin Lockwood, Sr. was called home to be with Jesus on June 13, 2023. He spent his final days at home, surrounded by his loving family. He lived an incredibly full life and left his indelible mark on every life he touched.
Frank served 26 years in the United States Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer. His military decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He served aboard vessels and stations including the USS Oriskany (CVA-34); the USS Enterprise (CVN-65); the USS Saratoga (CVB-60); NAS Norfolk, VA; NAS Hutchinson, KS; NWC China Lake, CA; and NAS Moffett Field, CA. Upon retirement from the Navy, Frank worked for Grumman aerospace for 16 years and during that time he was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service award and Letters of Commendation by the Navy for his contributions to military readiness.
Frank’s long and storied career included highlights such as competing for Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, assisting with commissioning of the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and living in Egypt. Frank additionally belonged to and donated to several veteran and service organizations and volunteered at Sunrise hospital in Las Vegas, NV.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife Charlene Lockwood, his children Frank Jr. (& Janice), Robert (& Ginger), Tammy (& Bill), Christina (& Kurt), Heather (& Patrick), his stepchildren Robert (& Jennifer), 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Frank was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Audrey, his son Michael, his daughter Tina, and his grandson Nathan.
A memorial service will be held at the Southern Nevada Memorial Veteran Cemetery on August 1, 2023 at 12pm.
