GAIL SLOAN PATTERSON
Born in Lubbock, TX on December 5, 1944, Gail grew up in an Air Force chaplains family, the daughter of Rev. J. Whitfield and Dorothy Sloan, living in seven states and France before graduating from Miami, FL Palmetto High School and attending college for a year in Florida. She met and married her husband, Donald Patterson, in Jacksonville, FL, moving shortly thereafter to Las Vegas, NV in December 1969.
Gail worked many years for the Howard Hughes Summa Corporation, retiring as accounts payable supervisor in 1999. During those years she became very active in Toastmasters International, training and mentoring many club members, receiving numerous awards, and being elected District Governor for NV and CA. She continued to participate in many Toastmaster activities until shortly before her death on October 15, 2011 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.
After retiring Gail served several years as loan officer for United Way of Southern Nevada, visiting numerous businesses and schools. Gail loved desert gardening, caring for hummingbirds, and nutcracker holiday decorations. She and Don enjoyed fishing and camping in southern Utah for many seasons and had vacationed with family members in the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in September 2010.
Gail is survived by Donald Patterson, her husband of 42 years three sisters and brothersinlaw: Sandra and William Coleman of Shrewsbury, MA, Dian and Russell Nussbaum of Greensboro, NC, Marcia and Jeffrey Snelson of Muskego, WI nephew Brad Snelson and family of Franklin, WI, nephew Chad Snelson and family of Minneapolis, MN, niece Alexis Nussbaum and family of Brooklyn, NY, and stepson Randall Patterson and family of Orlando, FL. Gail also considered her three Pekingese, Noel, Holly and Rosie, surviving family members.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nathan Adelson Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
