George Benjamin Haussmann, 69, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was discovered to have passed away in his home on the weekend before October 15, 2018.
George was born in Queens, New York on January 18, 1949 to Benjamin Haussmann and Grace Bauer Haussmann.
He attended Southside senior high school, in Rockville Center, New York, before enlisting in the United Air Force in the summer of 1967. Before serving in Vietnam, he was assigned to Davis Monthon Air Force Base, AZ, which is where he trained to become a Fire Protection Specialist.
After serving nearly 10 years as a fire inspector and fire protection supervisor, with the ranking of staff sergeant, he was honorably discharged.
George received a degree in both Science and Fire Science from Camden County College, New Jersey, and he appeared several times on both the Dean's and President's list for academic achievement.
He moved to Mariposa, California in the late 80's and started working for the California Department of Forestry (CDF).
He adopted his daughter, Lacey, in the mid 90's and continued to work for CDF, and became Fire Captain, before he retired in 2001 and moved to Las Vegas with Lacey.
George has been a Freemason for most of his life. He was a member of the Order of De Molay and went on to become a Life Member (and Master Mason) of the Free and Accepted Masons of California, Mariposa Lodge No. 24.
When he moved to Las Vegas he joined the local Masonic Daylight Lodge 44, along with the Zelzah Shriners. He also joined the local Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 17, becoming a Life Member. He was very active in the organization and was serving his second term as chapter president at the time of his passing.
In addition to president, he was a member of the Board of Directors, a member of the Finance Committee, VVA Chapter 17's State Counsel, and was the chapter's Chaplain for a period. Most notably, he helped form the program that provides funeral services for unclaimed veterans out at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
George is preceded in death by both Grace and Benjamin Haussmann.
He is survived by his older sister, Margaret Samuels, his daughter Lacey Grace Haussmann (25) and his granddaughter, Arwen Rose Haussmann (4).
