Harold Griffith Sr

Harold Emmet Griffith, was born August 4, 1952 to Helen and Irving Griffith in Brooklyn New York. He was the oldest of two children. He received his baptism at an early age at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Brooklyn. Harold, was called to eternal rest on Saturday, August 19, 2017.
Harold graduated from Adams High School in New York and began to pursue a career in teaching at Hunter College, New York, in 1971. For Family reasons Harold left Hunter for a few years to assist his family with their grocery business in Brooklyn, and to be close to his father who was very ill. Harold later attended Brooklyn College and received his bachelor's degree in early childhood education.
After College, Harold began a new occupation, becoming a High-Tech Vehicle Operator. He loved to drive, he developed a passion for driving passenger vans and then coach busses. He advanced himself to every motor vehicle license he could obtain.
While attending Hunter College he met Deralyn Meadows. Life's trials trails and tribulation separated the pair for a short time while Harold discovered America. While discovering Harold's daughters Lawanda and Andrea where born. In time the couple reunited and were married on June 26, 1992. From this union, Harold Griffith Jr. was born.
Harold Sr. was employed with New York City Department of the Homeless family shelter as a Vehicle operator for many years, retiring in 2001. He pursued another passion to drive coach busses over the road thru the East Coast. So, he began his next life adventure. Harold was always complemented on his excellent customer services and etiquette.
In June of 2001, Harold, Deralyn their son Harold Jr. and Harold Sr's sister Wanda along with Diamond the Rottweiler relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. With the move, Harold promised Deralyn that he would have a new house built for her and he did. Harold was employed with the Regional transportation commission of Nevada, (R.T. C.) driving city bussed for two years. After his time with the RTC he decided to move on to another passion and began his career with Ryan's Express as a coach driver. His experiences took him on one adventure after another both in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. He went "over-the road' numerous times with group tours to the Grand Canyon, Disney World and many other great landmarks. Harold was grateful and proud to have been a part of the Louisiana Flood/disaster relieve team. Transporting rescue teams and animals. He was recognized by his supervisors and coworkers as a leader, team player and mentor.
Harold was a humble man and loved his family. He was a man of few words, however when he did speak everyone listened. He was a giver to those he loved and cared for. Harold was also a talented Chef and often told people it was a gift from God. He loved to cook and bake and cooked all holiday meals for all to enjoy.
In 2016 his health began to fail, he continued to work under doctor's care until he retired from driving in August of 2017.
Harold leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Deralyn, his children Lawanda Griffith and Andrea Griffith of Brooklyn New York, and Harold Griffith Jr. of Las Vegas Nevada. Along with his sister Wanda Griffith also of Las Vegas. He is further survived by a grandson Dominque Davis, two granddaughters Zaryah and Amaya and one great grandchild on the way: three sister's n in laws Derre, Leslie, and Subrennia, Father and Mother in law all of Jacksonville, Florida. Along with aunts and an uncle and a host of cousins and friends.
We love you for being our patriarch, showering us with love, wisdom and knowledge. Sleep on Harold take your rest, we love you dearly, but God loves you best!
Services are scheduled for Friday, August 25 2017 at Davis Funeral Home, Rainbow Chapel located at 1401 S. Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas NV 89146. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM with the Funeral Services starting at 1:00 PM.
