Jason Sotomayor, an impactful man in many ways, departed on August 26, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he had been born and raised.
His life began on September 23, 1978. Everyone who knew Jason, would without a doubt say 43 years spent with him was simply not enough. He spent years perfecting his craft as a painter, and was known to be passionate - and excellent, and he took pride in his work.
He is survived by his parents, Helen Sotomayor and Pepe Sotomayor; his sisters, Natasha Aguilera-Martinez and Carla Lowery; his children, Gianna Sotomayor and Jovanni Stanert; his nephews Daniel Vidal and Samuel Vidal; and his nieces, Savannah Vidal and Mikaela Lowery.
The thing he valued most above all was his family. If you were loved by Jason, you were lucky. Although someone’s first impression of Jason might be that his appearance is intimidating, you would quickly realize that his favorite thing to do was laugh and make light of everything. Witty and sarcastic are incredibly fitting descriptions of his personality. These are some of the traits that formed him into the fun-loving father he was. The adoration he had for his children is unquestionable. Gigi and Jojo were the light of his life, his best friends and his whole world. When his first child was born, he explained the importance of his child and the enormity of his love. He described a person that gave him unconditional love, accepted him just the way that he was - his tattoos and piercings for example - were all part of her love for him. He vowed to always protect her, and he was so proud to be her father, and this would multiply when several years later came his son. Everything his son did cracked him up and brought a smile to his face, because of his innocence, adorable face and heart warming personality. Jason’s two beautiful children were his best blessing. But his love is shared across many others, like his parents, who have their hearts reserved for him and his siblings as well. Jason and his mother Helen were a team. They simultaneously drove each other crazy and loved each other to death. But they were always there for one another, and had a bond like no other. If you knew Jason, you’d know that he loved movies, and kept an insane DVD collection that constantly grew. You’d also know that he loved shoes, and bought his family new shoes for every birthday so that his family always looked their best, like him. He found great joy from his culture, and music of all genres. If you knew Jason, you most definitely have a memorable story about him. Jason will be always remembered, always missed, and always loved. Please share memories of Jason, or offer any condolences to his family.
