Obituary

John W. Dungan Sr, of Las Vegas, passed away on June 2, 2021, in Las Vegas, NV.

John was born in Eldon, Iowa on September 2, 1942, to William Carl Dungan and Mary Jane Boxx.  He was the oldest of 4 siblings.

He graduated high school in Eldon, after which he enlisted in the United States Military.  He served first in the United States Navy and later in the United States Air Force. John was proud of his service to our country and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired in January 1981 as a Master Sergeant. He would later work for Reynolds Electrical & Engineering Corporation.  Always a proponent of higher education, John would go back to school and go on to earn his Doctorate in Education. John was an active and devout member of the Lutheran Church for over 49 years. Nothing was more important to him than his family. John married Ossie Tidwell on November 24, 1971, and they celebrated over 49 years as man and wife.  He was a honored and adored father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Vicky Weeks.

John is survived by his wife Ossie M.; his sons W. Michael (Valerie), James E., and John W. (Sheila); his sisters Tammy (Rick) Leafgreen and Debbie (Ken) Starkweather; and his 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 am on June 8, 2021, at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on June 8, 2021, officiated by Pastor Tom Unke.  A private burial service for immediate family will be held on June 9th.  Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Services.

The family wish to express their gratitude to the Doctor Lin and the wonderful Nurses and Staff at Mountain View Hospital, and to Jaye MacPherson, Deborah Ace and the Staff of Davis Funeral Services for their professionalism and kindness.  The family also wishes to thank the many friends of John and Ossie for all that they have done.
