Jui-Tai Li

July 24, 1934 — December 12, 2011

JuiTai Li, 78, died Monday, December 12th, 2011 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas from complications related to advanced liver cancer.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Helen HouYing Li his sons Trent KuangChun Li, Young KuangYang Li two brothers, three sisters and many friends.
Even though he was born in Beijing, China to Dr. HsuChu Li and ShuYan Dai, and only lived there for the first nine months of his life, he always considered it his home. During the Second World War, his entire family escaped first to Szechuan then subsequently to Taiwan where he met his future wife, Helen. He served as an officer in the armed forces of Taiwan, studied military law and became a Judge Advocate General, presiding over dozens of cases, including several capital cases.
In 1972 he immigrated to the U.S. and got into the restaurant business, where he and his beloved Helen owned several Chinese restaurants in succession.
JuiTai was passionate about imbuing the Chinese language and culture into his sons beginning at an early age. He would tirelessly teach his sons from Chinese school books brought from Taiwan during his afternoon lunch breaks. He recognized that being literate in ones mother tongue while in a foreign country is of the utmost importance not just from a cultural identity perspective, but also as personal character development that provides a vocational advantage.
After retiring he became a member of The Church in Las Vegas. In his spare time, JuiTai enjoyed reading up on politics, watching political debate shows, and discussing politics with his friends and relatives at every opportunity.
