Obituary for Justina Santos Manahan

It is with great sorrow and loss that ​ Justina Santos Manahan ​ left this world on Monday April 27, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She was originally from Longos Pulilan Bulacan, Philippines, Baliwag Bulacan ,Philippines and also resided in Hagatna, Guam.

She now joins her husband ​ Antonio “Totoy” Manahan ​, her father ​ Angel P. Santos ​, her mother Melencia M. Santos ​, her brother ​ Cesar M. Santos ​, her sister in law ​ Maria Norma S.

Santos ​, her brother in law ​ Alberto Lopez ​ and her niece ​ Stacy Lyn R. Santos ​.

She has survived by her daughters, their husbands and their children and their grandchildren,

Everyone knew Justina as Nanay Osite or Ate Ostie, because she was such a loving and caring woman to everyone who surrounded her.  Although her passing did not happen quickly, we all knew she fought for months to get better , to see everyone she loved and take care of them. When you visited her at home, she would always ask you “ Come and eat now!” with her infectious laugh. Her most famous request was filipino dishes and filipino desserts called caldereta, dinuguan, sapin sapin, buko pandan, sago & gulaman to name a few. She was a great cook, which in fact she did all her life. When you asked her for a recipe, it was never written down because she remembered it in her head. Her daughters all inherited her passion for cooking as well.  When Nanay got too sick and  she would have visitors, she would still tell her visitors to “come and eat now” and ask her daughters to prepare food.

She was selfless and always wanted to give and give, you knew if you were going to Nanay’s you would always be fed and also had a to-go container to take home. She would stay up all night just to make her special request meals for parties, reunions or get togethers by herself and never asked for help.  All she wanted was everyone to be happy & content with the food she cooked.  Although she was tired from all night long preparation, seeing everyone enjoying her food made her happy.

Along with cooking she loved to travel to wherever loved ones lived whether it be her yearly trip to the Philippines, to Washington to visit her oldest daughter Gigi, or wherever anyone invited her to travel, she was willing to always go on an adventure, but don’t ever make her wait, she was a very impatient lady, just like her father.

Numerous family and friends will miss her smile and her laugh and the way she loved everyone in the Philippines, Guam, California, Italy, Australia & Las Vegas,  but we all know she is now happy and will  be reunited with her husband.

Nanay’s viewing will take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Davis Funeral Services at 1401 South Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146 from 11am-3pm.  Family and friends will have a celebration of her life sometime in the future when all restrictions for travel have been lifted.

Her final resting place will be in the Philippines with her husband at a later date.
