Kay Deneal

April 9, 1934 — February 9, 2016

Kay D. DeNeal of Las Vegas, NV., passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, February 9, 2016. He was 81. Kay was born in Mountain City, NV to parents Darl A. and Ella L. DeNeal, and grew up in Fallon. He enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served prior to settling in Los Angeles, Ca. It was there that he met the love of his life who would become his wife of 58 years, Dona De Neal (d.2015). In 1958 Kay joined the LAPD, where he served as an officer for 6 years; and then moved to the Nevada Highway Patrol, where he taught at the academy and retired as Sergeant. After devoting 28 years to law enforcement he retired in 1986. Kay was a driving force behind the efforts to improve the quality of life for others in various charitable ways. While working with Catholic Community Services he served as the Director of St. Vincent's Homeless Shelter for over 10 years. For over 50 years Kay was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was devoted to extending kindness and care to those in need, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on through the programs that he helped develop and implement.

Kay is survived by his daughters, Kristin DeNeal and Kerrin (Brian) Nichols of Las Vegas; sons, Kenton DeNeal of Las Vegas and Kory (Annette) DeNeal of Pahrump, NV; sister, Brenda(Ernest) Evangelista of Sparks, NV; brothers, Doren DeNeal of Fernley, NV.; Ronald (Maxine) Shane of Reno, NV; 4 grandchildren, Jacob and Jonathan Nichols, and Orin and Eli Sloniger; and 4 great-grandchildren, Kayleb, Layna, Aaliyah and Zoe Nichols.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 23rd from 5-8 pm at Davis Funeral Home, 1401 S. Rainbow Blvd., Las Vegas. The Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 24th at 10 AM at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave. Interment will take place Thursday, Feb. 25th at 10:40 am at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic War Veterans of the U.S.A., Our Lady of Peace Post 1947, P.O. Box 751901, Las Vegas, NV 89136-1901.
