Margaret (Peggy) Sanseverino, 90, of Las Vegas, passed away on July 21, 2017 in Las Vegas due to a long illness.
Peggy was born in Brooklyn, New York to Robert and Concetta Hartry in 1927.
Peggy graduated from high school in 1944, and subsequently worked in clerical positions. She also worked as a telephone operator and in a company making cans for various types of products. She met Michael Sanseverino while working at the can company, and they were married in 1957. They were married until Mike's death in 1990. Peggy and Mike had two sons, William and Michael, and moved from Brooklyn out to Long Island at that time. She became a wonderful homemaker after the children were born. The family then relocated to Las Vegas during the summer of 1971.
Notorious for hating to be photographed, her sons would sneak pictures of her while she was innocently doing whatever she was doing at the time. There is a rare picture or two of her posing for photos while she was younger. Much later in her life, she warmed up to the idea of being photographed.
Peggy enjoyed doing crossword puzzles for many, many years, and rarely needed crossword puzzle dictionaries to complete them. When the beginning stages of cataracts started to affect her vision, she gave them up. She was also known for her quick witted sense of humor.
She enjoyed going to seafood restaurants for a good shrimp or lobster dinner, light traveling, the Judge Judy television program, cheering for her favorite NASCAR driver on TV, and eating ice cream, among other things. Her favorite flavors were Butter Pecan and Cherry Vanilla. Although she was small in stature, she could eat quite a bit of ice cream while relaxing watching television.
While growing up in Brooklyn, there was very little need to learn how to drive a car since there were always the bus or subway systems as means of transportation. Mike attempted to teach her how to drive several times in the 1960s, but she finally decided driving was not for her. However, she did possess quite an alertness when sitting in the passenger seat and would notice the inattentiveness of other drivers. She also had quick reflexes to hit that "imaginary brake pedal" on the passenger side of the car.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Concetta Hartry, husband Michael Sanseverino, son Michael Sanseverino, Jr., sisters Anne Esposito and Mary Fields, and brothers Robert and William Hartry.
Peggy is survived by her son William Sanseverino of Las Vegas, sisters Caroline Nichols and Geraldine Lambiase of Las Vegas, brother Edward Hartry of Las Vegas and brother Michael Hartry of Micco, FL.
Peggy's family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Mountain View Hospital, Spring Valley Hospital, and Infinity Hospice, especially the nursing staff, who cared for Peggy on a daily basis with tenderness and human kindness. It was appreciated very much.
