Margarita Iglesias-Coc

Margarita Iglesias Coc, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on May 7, 2011 after a long illness. Margarita was born on June 12, 1938, in a small village in Guatemala. She moved to Guatemala City when she was a teenager. Her father was Francisco Iglesias and her mother was Maria CocCac. She immigrated to the United States in 1974 and she became a U.S. citizen in 2002. She lived in Los Angeles, California for nineteen years and worked in the garment industry as a machine sewing operator. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1993 and worked at the Sahara Hotel and Casino as a kitchen worker until she was 70 years old. Margarita enjoyed working at the Sahara where she met a lot of good people, and some of them became her closest friends.
Our mother will be greatly missed by family and friends. Every Christmas day, she enjoyed going through the hard work of making Guatemalan tamales and shared them with her family and friends. She was Madre and abuelita to many, specially, to her friends in her apartment building where she lived since 1998. Our mother was very independent and hard working. She was also a joyful and charismatic lady with a strong personality. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to marimba Guatemalan music and dance salsa music. She also enjoyed winning at the penny gambling machines in Las Vegas.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria Coc and her two sisters: Elena Lopez and Elvira Coc.
She is survived by her Daughters: Esther Mazariegos, Lucrecia MazariegosDaz, Norma Mock, Brenda Mazariegos and Sons: Benedicto Mazariegos Jr. and Cesar Monterroso.
She is also survived by Grandchildren: Joshua Murcia, Sara Clapp, Verushka Peralta, Jennifer Mazariegos, Deborah Diaz, Katherine Diaz, Lorie Diaz, Helen Galicia, Leslie Galicia, Fabian Galicia, Felix Galicia, Juan Monterroso, Wendy Monterroso, Paola Monterroso, Leslie Murcia and Great grandchildren: Alyssa, Cesar Jr, Audrey, Kevin, Brian, Andrew, Michaela, and Isabella.
