Mary Donna Barney
July 21, 1947 - September 22, 2017
Born on July 21, 1947 in Pocatello, ID to William and Donna Jensen, Mary was raised in Columbia, SC. Her family moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1970 where she med and married, David Barney, her husband of 44 years. Mary had a love of learning. She received a Bachelors Degree in Education from Brigham Young University and a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley College. She worked for 23 years in the Clark County School District as a school librarian. She retired from the school district in 2013.
Mary had a passion for reading. She would often read a book a day. Her favorite books were mystery and romance novels. She also had a love GOD> She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held several callings in her church teaching children and adults about God. When she was 21 she served a full time mission for her church in Central America where she became fluent in Spanish.
In addition to being a teacher at school and at church, she impacted the lives of many children by tutoring them in reading after school. She always did everything she could for other people in her life. She was a true follower of Christ.
Mary died of colon cancer on September 22, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. She is survived by her husband David Barney of Las Vegas, her daughter Alisha Stephens of Las Vegas NV, her sons Jeff Barney of Salt Lake City, UT, Eric Barney of Las Vegas, NV and Jason Barney of Las Vegas, NV and her nine grandchildren Jacob,Stephens, Bryce Stephens, Logan Stephens, Matthew Barney, Lydia Barney, Jacelin Barney, Kaylee Barney, Allison Barney and Grace Barney.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday October 7, 2017 at 11:15am at the LDS Chapel Located at 229 N. Walnut Road. Las Vegas, NV 89115.
