Melville B. Spriggs, the eldest of two children, was born in Cambridge, MA on November 10, 1922, to parents, Ronald N. Spriggs and Florence Barbour Spriggs. His parents and sister preceded him in death.
Melville was inducted into the United States Army in 1943 and served in WW II in the Army Infantry as a Corporal in Rome, Normandy, and Northern and Southern France. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
His work experience spanned 26 years for Washington, D.C. Manpower Assistance Project Los Angeles Urban League and Housing Authority and San Francisco Housing Authority and Economic Opportunity Council.
Melville met and married the love of his life, Mary Natalie, in August, 1962 in Seabrook, New Hampshire. They migrated to Los Angeles, CA where they grew not only spiritually through serving at First AME Church, Los Angeles, but culturally via of sharing jazz concerts, traveling the world, and entertaining. Their marriage was one adventure after another allowing them to share lifes experiences from Boston, San Francisco Bay area, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and finally, Las Vegas, NV for semiretirement.
Mr. Mrs. Spriggs joined in membership in September, 1991 at First AME Church, North Las Vegas where he served on the Trustee Board. Melville was also instrumental in organizing FAME Sons of Allen and served as president for several years. The Spriggs later moved their membership to Holy Trinity AME Church, North Las Vegas.
He leaves to celebrate his life: a daughter, Lauren Williams son, Rev. Leonard B. Jackson special daughters: Marie Jackson, Arlene Jackson, and Faith Shields grandson: Ronald Jackson granddaughters: Gabrielle Johnson and Chanel Williams cousin and best friend, William Brathwaite of Cambridge, MA seven greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and long time friends.
