Michael James Riley - Proud veteran, hardworking Teamster, and dedicated family man. After his childhood in California’s Bay Area, and spending time in the merchant marines, Michael went on to serve in the US Army, 2nd Infantry Division from 1953-1954, where he rose to the rank of Sargent while in action during the war in Korea.
Returning from his time in the service, Michael became involved with the Teamsters Union where he found great success in advocating for the rights of working men and women. In 1974 he was elected Secretary-Treasurer emeritus of Los Angeles Teamsters Local 986 and subsequently became President emeritus of Southern California and Southern Nevada Joint Council of Teamsters No. 42. Michael was appointed an International Union Representative in 1981 and served as Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters from 1985 to 1992. In January of 1992 he was elected Chairman of the Western Conference of Teamsters. He also served as Co-Chairman of the Teamsters Miscellaneous Security Health and Welfare Fund, covering more than 25,000 members; a trustee of the Teamsters Van and Storage Health and Welfare Trust Fund and the Teamsters Death Benefit Trust Fund; a trustee of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust; was Vice President of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO; and was both President, and the Immediate Past President, of the Board of the International Foundation, and served as the Executive Committee liaison to the Canadian Board. He was also active in many other civic, political and charitable affairs.
In addition to his career accomplishments, Mike was blessed to have very happily married not only one love of his life, but two. First, Clare for 28 years, and then his loving wife Faye for over 32 years. His “amazing” life and legacy will be carried on forever in the hearts of those who love him most; his dear brother John, his six kids and spouses, his twelve grandchildren and his five great grandchildren, ALL of whom were his life’s greatest pride, joy and love! Known affectionately as Pops, Ol’ Goat, Dad, Daddio, Grandpa, Big Grandpa, Great Grandpa ~ He truly was AMAZING!
The family of Michael will be having private family services to honor the life of Michael. At the conclusions of these services Michael will be laid to rest at The Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 1900 Veteran's Memorial Dr. Boulder City, Nevada 89005
All acts and gifts of condolences can be made in charitable donations to Nathan Adelson Hospice or the the Korean War Veteran Association.
