Roy Wilder

June 1, 1954 — January 17, 2016

Roy Eugene Wilder, Sr., age 61, peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on January 17, 2016. Roy was born the first son of Barbara and Donald Wilder in Lynwood, California. He leaves behind his mother Barbara and 3 of his siblings, Kim, Jack and Tammy while he becomes reunited with his brother Donny and father Don. He also leaves behind his son, Roy Jr., his daughter Stacy and his granddaughter Bethany. In addition, he also leaves behind a one of a kind niece who he was so proud of, Lexie, and his good ol' buddy, Uncle Junior who he also shared a special connection with throughout his life.
At the end of last year, a flag was flown over the United States Capital on behalf of Roy for his courageous "Battle of the Esophagus." While he was not in the military, he showed much bravery and strength as he continued to fight the fight each and every day regardless of his pain.
Some of his hobbies included shopping for unique items and working with his hands. Roy was a person who could make anything look brand new again, fix anything that was in need of repair, and could give you a short history lesson on anything being purchased.
Roy began working for the phone company, Pacific Bell as a teenager. He climbed poles, worked on fix it tickets, and had a work ethic that his coworkers still continue to talk about even after his retirement of 30 years. He was a dedicated employee and a loyal friend. He had a lot of great stories about climbing those phone poles back in the day. If you were lucky enough to hear them, they would certainly make you laugh. He was very excited when his boss presented him with one of the newest and best trucks on the fleet. He still has the picture of his early truck hanging on his wall for everyone to see as they come into his house. Another great adventure he had with his job with the phone company is the opportunity he had to work at the happiest place on Earth- Disneyland. He helped showcase the new innovative phones and wiring in the Tomorrowland exhibit for the phone company. Yes, you had to even wait in a line back then just to get in to hear him talk about the future of phones.
A craftsman he was as he studied all kinds of woodworking, stained glass designs and was a master of antiques. He loved finding pieces of wood, especially in his cousins' yard and making them into a variety of things. His stained glass designs adorned the windows of his historical house in Orange County, California, in which he won an award from the Historical Society and the City Council for his work in restoring his old home, which was his largest antique that he ever had, before moving to Las Vegas.
During his life, he surrounded himself with good people and was careful to make sure those people would make him a better person in some way. That is especially true over the past couple of years when he opened up his circle of friends to include such wonderful friends who enlightened him on many topics, empowered him to be an even better person and who above all, showed their love and patience with him during the past year.
When you think of two things that go together, you can't find a better fit-at least that is what Roy would say about his favorite thing- LEVIS. Whether it was the hospital bed, church, working in the garden, or going out to dinner, they were the perfect match and still are today!
We will miss you Roy- you will always be in our hearts.
