Shelia Jean Austin

Shelia Jean Austin, a spirited and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 75.

Born on August 4, 1949, Shelia brought joy, warmth, and a dash of luck to everyone who knew her. In 1978, she made Las Vegas her home after leaving California—and she truly embraced the spirit of her city.

She was married for over 50 years to the love of her life, Bill Austin, who preceded her in death in August of last year. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Dimitri.

A proud homemaker for much of her life, Shelia also worked in the convention industry, kicking carpet at some of the biggest shows in the nation. Whether at home or on the job, she brought grit, humor, and a get-it-done attitude to everything she did.

Shelia was a woman who knew how to savor life’s simple joys—starting her day with a big breakfast and a very sweet, very creamy cup of coffee. But if there was one thing that lit her up, it was a good game of bingo or keno. She loved to win. Whether at her favorite local spot or just playing for fun, Shelia played with passion, a twinkle in her eye, and a belief that the next number might just be the one. Her luck and enthusiasm were legendary.

She had a deep, unwavering love for dogs and never missed a chance to pamper and protect any pup that crossed her path. If a dog needed a soft place to land, Shelia provided it—usually with treats in hand and plenty of affection to spare.

Shelia is lovingly remembered by her sons, Jason (Jenna) and David (Suzie), and her cherished grandchildren, Lexi, Maddy and Bree. Her legacy lives on in their hearts and stories, and in the lucky streaks she passed down.

She made her mark on the world with kindness, laughter, and a competitive spirit that never faded. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A memorial service to celebrate Shelia’s life will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 1401 S Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146.
