Shirleymay Kane, age 89 died peacefully on April 25, 2021 at her home in Las Vegas, NV. She was born July 28, 1931 to Charles and Grace Yakey of Hinsdale, MA. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1950 and went into Nursing. She graduated from Westfield State Sanatorium in 1953. This was a hospital for cancer and TB patients. She went on to work in many hospitals over the years. Shirley married Albert D Kane, Jr on June 20, 1953. They moved to Monson, MA where she worked for the Police Dept. She left human nursing and went to work for a Veterinarian for 11 years before moving to Las Vegas in 1977.
Shirley was a Life Member of The American Legion and a member of the Rebekahs. She was also a member of the Desert Springs United Methodist Church.
In 1980 she went to work for EG&G in Security until her retirement in 2001 as a Lieutenant. Her husband, Albert, passed away in 1991 from cancer. This left her with 6 dogs to care for. Shirley always loved animals from a very early age.
Shirley’s 6 Corgi’s were therapy dogs. They would visit hospitals and care homes. Her life revolved around her dogs. On October 13, 2001, Shirley married Raymond Vanderbush. They were married for nearly 20 years.
Shirley is survived by her husband, her Chihuahua Bambi, niece Sandra Alderman and cousin Laurie Tierney. Shirley will be laid to rest at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV with her former husband Albert. There will be no services.
