William Kapalka, 46 an attorney of Las Vegas passed away from pancreatic cancer June 7, 2012. Bill was from Pittsburgh country, born June 1, 1966. He was a 2004 graduate of the UNLV Boyd Law School. His law practice specialized in criminal and family law. He was recognized for his pro bono work receiving the Louis Weiner Award from Legal Aid of Clarke County and, at graduation, the UNLV Law School Deans award for public service.
Before attending Law School he was in Food Service Management for over 20 years, 16 with the Marriott Corporation. He came to Las Vegas in 1998 as a hospital Food Service Director. Having been previously very successful Resident DiningRetail Operations Unit Manager for Marriott Corp. at Arizona State University.
Bill enjoyed sports and was a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan and in recent years supported the UNLV Rebels.
In 1988, he graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in management and was a member of the National Honor Society Phi Eta Sigma. He was a founding member of the Kappa Delta Rho.
He was an avid weightlifter and enjoyed the Las Vegas Athletic Club.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his twin boys Michael and Shane, his Mother Viola Graham of Pittsburgh and brothers Joe, Butch, and Marty and sisters Debbie and Ginny all in Pennsylvania. A viewing will be held Monday, June 11 at 68 pm and Tuesday, June 12 from 10:45 am to 12:45 pm with Service following at 1:00 pm at the LDS Church, 3300 N. Buffalo.
The funeral service will be held in Emmett Idaho at the Emmett Stake Center located at 980 W. Central Road, Emmett, Idaho at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Interment following at Emmett Cemetery.
To assist with expenses the family suggests contributions to the Bill Kapalka Foundation, Valley Bank, 6385 Simmons Street Las Vegas 89031 in lieu of flowers.
